Matt Ryan of DBS
Matt is a Detroit-based Spector Bass (KORG) artist, touring bassist, and mixing/mastering engineer raised in a deeply musical family. Influenced by artists like Herbie Hancock, D’Angelo, J. Dilla and bands including Meshuggah, and TOTO, he began playing bass at age 10. Having a versatile ear and musical interest, also led him to become one of the most well-rounded bassists in Detroit.
Through years of live performance and studio work, Matt developed a reputation for musical sensitivity, groove, and versatility. He has performed with multiple grammy nominated artists including Alex Isley, Chantae Cann, Mike Phillips, Kenny G, Brandon Williams and Quiana Lynell to name a few. Through his career he has shaped his instinct for supporting a song from both the stage and the control room.
This dual perspective led him to found dBs, where he focuses on crafting mixes that translate emotion, clarity, and impact. Since 2021, Matt has worked closely with artists to enhance their sound, combining musicianship, a precise ear, and a collaborative approach that puts the music, and the artist first.
